An Exquisite Ocean Course Right On The Beach
Welcome to paradise! If you're a golfer who likes the beach, the sun, the expansive views of the ocean, you might as well feel you've transcended to the place where the gods of golf have made their home. The layout is designed by one of the deities himself, St Nicklaus, and it could not be more perfect. The natural beauty of the landscape and the vegetation is included harmoniously in the course elements blend together symbiotically. So breathtaking are the views for the newcomer that they should be considered a hazard to the game. It is indeed hard to concentrate on the golf swing, the distance and wind action while surrounded by all kinds of points of interest competing for attention. Speaking of wind - it is relentless. Some days are better than others but it is a feature of the course. For those used to playing in Scotland, it probably feels like home. For the rest of us, it's best to use the practice time at the range to hit those low shots with lots of spin. Barring that, results may be quite random.
However, St. Nick wanted to give everyone a generous Christmas gift so he made most fairways extra-wide, stretched the greens and added four sets of tees for all skill levels. There is no long rough and tall grass so it's very easy to chip or even put from around the greens. There is water on almost every hole but for the most part it doesn't come into play unless the shot is either very aggressive or mishit. Most of the hazards are waste bunkers along the fairways and vast gravel expanses where you can still hit the ball but with very unpredictable results.
Best time to play is when the temperatures are not too hot and the humidity is low which would except the summer months. If you had to pick only one ocean course to play, this should be in your top three. In fact, it would be worth planning a whole vacation just for the opportunity to play Punta Espada at least a couple of times. Once is not enough...
Bonus points for breathtaking beach views.
